Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai was the 2nd city I ever visited in Asia and first that I spent an extended period of time in. I spent all of Jan 2024 here. I had no idea this would end up being one of if not my favorite city in all of SEA. Lovely people, incredible food (my pallet's ruined forever), and just a beautiful city and surrounding area.

Neighborhood Breakdown

Nimmanhaemin

The younger, hipper area of the city. Super walkable. Just west of Old Town. Tons of restaurants, coffee shops, & bars. I didn't stay here, because I committed to a longer stay elsewhere, but I wish I had.

Old City

Center of the city surrounded by an old moat. Super walkable and caters to tourists. This is where they host the Sunday night market. There's nightly food markets on the North and South gates that are both great.

Accommodations

The Astra Sky River

This is where I staved for the entire month of January. Great rooftop pool, wifi, work space on the roof. Descent location. About a 20 minute walk SE of Old Town. I do wish I had stayed in Nimman, however I had already committed to this place for the month. Regardless, no regrets. This place was great.
