Pat's Chiang Mai Guide

Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai was the 2nd city I ever visited in Asia and first that I spent an extended period of time in. I spent all of Jan 2024 here. I had no idea this would end up being one of if not my favorite city in all of SEA. Lovely people, incredible food (my pallet's ruined forever), and just a beautiful city and surrounding area.

Diciotto SlowBar Coffee

This man treats every couple of coffee like it's a work of art. Just check out the photos on Google Maps... Don't expect to grab a coffee in 2 minutes and be out. He takes his time. So many cool coffee-related contraptions on the wall. Definitely grab coffee 1 morning from this spot if you're in the Nimman area.

WTF Coffee Camp

One of the cooler coffee shops I've ever been to, if you can even call it that. I think there's a resort & pizza place on site too. I just grabbed a latte, but man the waterfall on site is so beautiful. They charge you to park (I think it was 100 baht), but you can use that money towards coffee. I practiced my Thai numbers with the girls working the coffee shop and got absolutely roasted (pun intended) for my poor abilities lol.

River Rock Cafe Hill

A coffee shop along the Samoeng loop. Incredible. You walk across this swinging bridge over a waterfall. I ended up getting chocolate cake w/ my coffee. 10/10 would recommend.

Kao Soy Nimman

I'm in love with kao soy. My favorite dish during my 3 month trip to Asia. This place was my favorite kao soy. I could bathe in that broth...

Rotee Pa Day

Old lady from Pakistan making roti (great dessert flatbread). I think she's an icon in Chiang mai. Just east of old town.

Haidilao Hot Pot (MAYA Chiang Mai)

This is definitely a chinese thing, but this happened to be the first time I tried hot pot. loved it!

Chiang Mai Gate Market

This became my goto night market. I could walk here from my apartment (20ish minute walk). I also just liked the vibes of this market over others. There's a lady making fresh papaya salad that I loved.

Chang Phuak Gate Night Market - Food Stalls

Another good night market surrounding old city. This is the market Bourdain went to when he tried the stewed pork from the "cowboy hat lady" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjxPMa4tu0c.
